Hayrack Church Farm

Kids love animals, it is just one of those things. So what could be better than a family day out at a children’s farm. There are many children’s farms to choose from in the Cheshire / Wirral area. Hayrack Church Farm’s great selling point is that not only does it have a good selection of conventional farm animals, it also has a more eclectic mix of animals such as boa constrictors and exotic birds. Located in Thornton-le-Moors it is just off junction 10 of the M53, the same junction as Cheshire Oaks. (So maybe it could be teamed up with a bit of bargain shopping if you really want to make a day of it). Parking is free, whilst it isn’t a huge carpark, we went in half term and still managed to find a spot.

Hayrack is currently open 9-5 daily, although  please check if you are going incase of seasonal changes. There is a cafe, farm and a farm shop (which has different hours of operation so check if you are interested in visiting). Entry is a universal £2 per person with kids under 2yrs going free. So it is an affordable day out for most families. The cafe prepares food from scratch so there can be a wait, especially on busy days, but prices are reasonable and there is a kids menu.

We spent 2 1/2 hours there and my daughter had a wonderful time. At the moment there are an abundance of super cute baby animals to see, so this is a fantastic time to visit. Earlier in the spring you are able to feed the lambs. We didn’t do that this year but we were lucky enough to do it last year and Erynn talked about it for weeks afterwards. It think we have watched the video of it a hundred times. You can see from the pictures some of the cuteness on offer. I won’t list the animals but will say there are the usual suspects along with some surprises like turkeys, parakeets, snakes and turtles.

They do “Meet the Animal” sessions where you can sit down and they bring in a small selection of animals to pet and give a brief talk about each of them. Erynn’s attention was kept as they keep it short and she was so excited to be able to pet lizards and ducklings. We went in the holidays on a busy day so it may be worth calling ahead if you are going in a quieter season to see if they are doing this, if it is something you are interested in.

Loved : were the meet the animal session

Value for money day out

Not so good:

Longer wait times on food

Loose boards and screws on the wooden kids climbing frame on this visit.

4/5 fun factor
